Wine diplomacy and trade policy: the international dimension

Our Master in Food Law hosted a captivating event shedding light on the dynamic landscape of the EU wine sector.

Over the past fifteen years, this sector has experienced unparalleled growth, driven by soaring demand from consumers in third-country markets spanning from America to Asia.
We were honored to have as speakers Anita Nappo, John Clarke, and Nicola Tinelli share their expertise with us. They offered deep analyses of the impact of trade policies over the past decade, the protection of Geographical Indications (GIs) beyond EU borders, and the future of multilateralism in the wine industry.
Anita Nappo, Head of Trade Policy and Economic Security at the UK Department for Business and Trade, provided unique perspectives on recent EU-UK negotiations and their implications for the wine sector. John Clarke, former Director of International Affairs at the EU Commission & Head of the EU Delegation to the WTO and UN, brought invaluable insights from his extensive experience. Nicola Tinelli, Head of Institutional Affairs at the Italian Wine Union, shared valuable perspectives from the forefront of the industry.

The event was a remarkable opportunity for our community to deepen our understanding of the complex interplay between law, trade, and viticulture.

We extend our gratitude to our speakers and attendees for making this event a success!
